Sleigh bells are ringing, snow is glistening, and Santa's gone social! It's starting to look a lot like Christmas, and while 2011's tablet mania and Smartphone fixations have branded a new culture of communication and technology, Santa Clause has managed to keep old holiday traditions alive with some high-tech twists. Seeing is believing now as the possibilities to interact with Santa Clause are endless. Be it video chatting with the big guy, following Santa on Twitter to check if you're on the naughty or nice list, or enlisting on NORAD to track his every whereabouts, Santa has become quite the social butterfly this time of year. Parents can even arrange for personalized letters and recorded phone calls from Santa to be sent to their children. And Santa isn't the only North Pole native active on Twitter. Mrs. Clause is no bah humbug to Twitter, the elves take a break during toy making days to engage in some playful Twitter banter, and while reindeers may have no thumbs to twiddle, they manage to blast a few tweets in between pulling Santa's sleigh. While some may argue Facebook and Twitter have made it more difficult to preserve the innocence and naivety of Santa's existence, children's presence online is undeniable so adapting the tried-and-true traditions of the holidays seems only logical. Just as Buddy the Elf had to convince a crowd that the best way to spread Christmas Cheer is singing loud for all to hear, these new means of networking with Santa are bound to give Santa's sleigh enough power to ride into the night! Others must agree in that the North Pole isn't the only Christmas community online. Beginning last year, a Secret Santa social experiment began on Twitter, and eventually moved into Facebook as well, in which users in more than 40 countries joined and turned what was intended to be a person-to-person gift exchange game into a charity-driven donation where warm-hearted participants pushed their internal greedy Grinch aside and had their Secret Santa gift donated to the charity of their choice. We embrace, interact and react to social media everyday, and seeing the spirit of Christmas catch up & get on board makes it all the more jolly!
